Today I traveled alone to Brooklyn today and didn't get lost, but I lost $20. Met with Tara Violet Niami to photograph her for a school project of mine. As bizarre as she looked, we didn't even get scared looks from strangers. Though I was supposed to shoot a 36 exposure roll of film in 2 minutes, it turned into about an hour. I'm so used to digital that I'm struggling a bit with film, but I'll have to get used to it since my 35mm class is 6 hours long every week. After I finished shooting the roll of film we took some digital shots which are all below. Including the after shots when Tara attempted taking off all the make-up with one bottle of water and no towels. After dropping Tara back off at Pratt I wandered around Brooklyn and went into the record store "Dope Jams" that Tara showed me the last time I visited. I bought an old journal with a leather cover that you have to wrap with string to close, and the owner gave it to me for $30 instead of $35 because 1.) I only had $30, and 2.) the book had been in the store for 2 years. After that I headed back to Manhattan, covered in dirt and black eye shadow that some how got all over my legs. Lately I've been trying to get used to taking photographs here in New York, it's much different than back home Upstate. My digital photography class assignment is to take 30 photographs representing 30 different words, and it has proven to be a challenge for me, but it's forcing me to think and look at the world around me differently... as cliche as that sounds, it's true. I will be posting that project when I finish it sometime next week (before Thursday, when it's due!).
